Welcome to the ESCLD website.

The European Student Council for Law and Diplomacy (ESCLD) is an organisation structured across several categories.

Each Committee operates under the authority of a Department, and each Department reports to its respective Council.

Council > Department > Committee

Every association member is free to join whichever category or categories they wish. There is no limit on participation, and members may belong to several categories simultaneously. Furthermore, some categories may collaborate on shared topics. For example, the Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms Council and the International Relations Council are likely to address issues of mutual interest, creating opportunities for interdisciplinary cooperation.

About the Councils.

A Council is the highest-level division within the association. It may comprise several Departments, each of which may in turn comprise several Committees.

For example, the International Relations Council is the division responsible for bringing together all work related to international relations.

In accordance with the approved internal regulations, each Council is headed by a Director, appointed by the Executive Board (with the decision determined by the President, Vice-President, Secretary General, and Treasurer). In this example, the position would be titled International Relations Council Director.

About our Departmens

Within a Council, Departments may be established. These are divisions focused on a specific aspect of judicial, political, or diplomatic affairs.

Continuing with our example, the International Relations Council could include a Russia and Eurasian Affairs Department, a division focused on Russian and Eurasian international affairs. The Department is therefore part of the Council’s structure.

In accordance with the approved internal regulations, each Department is headed by a Coordinator, elected by the members of the Department themselves. If no Coordinator is elected, the Director may appoint one.

In our example, the position would therefore be titled Russia and Eurasian Affairs Department Coordinator. If necessary, an Associate Coordinator may be appointed to assist the Coordinator in their duties.

About our Committees.

A Committee is the most specific level of the structure. It is the final organisational category and is generally established to carry out a specific task or project.

Continuing with our example, a Wagner Group Studies Committee could be established within the Russia and Eurasian Affairs Department. This working group would be responsible for researching and documenting the Russian Wagner Group.
